Like all skills and procedures they are pasted down from generation to generation, and the problems which seem to occur with thoses skills and procedures are also pasted down from generation to generation. The Mazda 6 is well know for its engine failure, this unfortunate occurrence seems to be pasted down to the Mazda 3 2.2 Sport from its older brother the 2.0 litter diesel.

The Mazda 3 2.2 Sport is fitted with a complex low emission system called DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter), this system operates by increasing the rate of diesel injected into each cylinder for a short period of time. The purpose of this is to increase the temperature in the DPF filter to burn of the soot particles stored, this process is called DPF regeneration. The problem with this procedure is, some of the diesel used during regeneration escapes past the piston rings and into the engine oil, when this happens, we create a very big problem called oil degradation. When you combine this with hot and cold engine running temperatures, then we end up with what is commonly known as sludge, unfortunately this sludge can gather in places like the wire filter goze which located on the bottom of the oil pump and will lead to oil starvation to major components in your Mazda 3 2.2 Engine such as big end bearings and the crankshaft, so in short, you will need a reconditioned engine for you Mazda 3 2.2.

The Mazda  2.2 engine is not very forgiving if runs low on oil, what I mean is that some engines will still run for a short while until you get some oil into them, but the Mazda 3 2.2 Sport engine will simply seize or can sometimes develop a big end bearing knock.
