The diesel particulate filter is fitted to allow engines to reach the latest emissions standards, diesel vehicles require a system to clean the exhaust gases before they exit to atmosphere. The Soot particles are coated with fuel additive and then are stored in the diesel particulate filter until they reach a pre-defined level. At this point the ECU will trigger the DPF regeneration process which is designed to increase the temperature in the DPF filter to burn of the soot particles. Unfortunately this process has its common problems, one of being the DPF filter can block due to the high soot build up, this will cause a high pressure reading at one end of the DPF filter, once the ECU detects the incorrect pressure reading it will trigger the flashing DPF light. Vehicles that suffer from a flashing DPF light are the Mazda 6, Ford Focus, Peugeot Citroen and Volkswagen, this leaves only one option, have the DPF removed.

To remove theDPF system the first thing is to remove the exhaust system from the vehicle, then depending on excess, remove theDPF internal filter until you are left with the catalytic converter filter. The next thing is to carry out a forced DPF regeneration of the DPF using a diagnostic tool, at this point the DPF code will need deleted by remapping the vehicles ECU with a map which no longer has a DPF code to operate the system. This will not effect how the vehicle runs, in fact it normally runs much better and will produce a bit more power. DPF removal is very common in modern vehicles such as Mazda 6, Ford Focus, Peugeot Citroen, BMW and Volkswagen, so if you need a DPF removal then get in touch and we will help you.
